Posuki: How To Be Popular Survival Kit

Creative Thinking Skills: Project One

This project required students to make a survival kit according to the topic they chose. My group had chosen How To Be Popular Survival Kit, and we were supposed to make a design and create a survival kit for the topic.

Part One - Group Task: The survival kit

Prior to making the survival kit, each other students had to think of two items (adding up to be 20 items in total) relevant to the survival kit to be used. We should also include the manual on how to use the items, whether to use a booklet or an attached to the item on a tag, like my group did. Since we were trying to promote our survival kit, of course we had to include a branding logo to our kit, and that is "Posuki", that came from the two initial letters in Popular Survival Kit. Since it sounded like a Japanese name, we used the Japanese style as our theme in our survival kit.

Part Two - Group Task: Advertisement video of the survival kit

After doing the packaging and designing of the survival kit, we made our advertisement video to in a way "promote" our survival kit. We had planned out a skit for the video to make it more enjoyable. The video is about a girl who had no friends, and was treated as an invisible person to anyone else, but it all changed when she met a mysterious person who gave her a box that magically turned into a Japanese looking kit...

Part Three - Individual Task: Journal (Later complied into Group Journal)

Individually, we were to record the items we chose for the survival kit in loose papers so that it could be compiled into a group journal to be passed up. We were to ask and answer questions on the journal about why we had chose the items and why was it important for the survival kit and so on. Other than the items Journal, we had to include the Group Journal with the process in making the survival kit and the storyboard of our advertisement video.

Reflection:
From this project I learned that there are many ways to define a "survival kit", not just a little kit for medication purposes or a kit for emergencies for outdoor activities. Like for our group's, it's called the How to be Popular Survival Kit and we even managed to think of so many interesting things for the kit. I think that thinking creatively not only make things more interesting and out of the box, but it also helps to expand one's thinking.

IDJ 3: So Now I'm the Superfamous Superhero

Creative Thinking Skills: Idea Journal Three

In this Idea Journal we were to create our very event for our superhero to meet the world. My superhero is making an event to make people appreciate the colours they are living in. In the world my superhero lives, in, the people got bored of colours and never get interested in them any more. Because of that, my superhero had to make make this event to teach everyone to appreciate, but at the same time it is an event for her to meet the people. Other than that, we should also include a merchandise, and mine is something related to my superhero.

Reflection:
From this Idea Journal I learned to relate things together. For example to relate my superhero's character, power, and interest to the event she was going to make. This is also a good skills to pick up especially when trying to organize information and researches. Besides that, I also learned to make a proper comic strips (first page) which I don't used to know how to.

Oral Presentation

English I: Assignment Two

The second assignment of English I is about Oral Presentation. In groups of 5, students are required to choose a topic from the 7 wonders in the world. My group had chosen to do the topic about The Great Wall of China. From this topic, the 5 of us was also divided into little groups, that is the historical background, materials, ornaments, and structure and layout.

Reflection:
After doing this project, I realized that doing an oral presentation is a very good experience because it helped me understand more of what my information and that trying to convey a message through speaking is very informative. Sometimes, it's not a whole piece of essay that shows the important notes, but rather picking up key words and emphasizing on them. Also, organizing information is important too, as trying to link information the right way helps convey the information more clearly.

Representing Nature: The Habitat Info Graphic Exhibition Booth

Elements in Natural and Built Environment: Project One

This was the very first project for ENBE, and it was a big project. It was 20% group work and 10% idividual work, and the aim of this project was not only to experience nature but to create awareness of the elements in natural and built environment. There were several parts of this project.

Part One - Site Visit

We started out the project by going to a site visit trip on 29th of February to 2nd of March in Janda Baik, Pahang. In this trip we were supposed to explore the nature and observed to collect information that were useful for the next parts of the project. We made use of our five senses to make observations for self experiences. We also did record the surroundings and activities around us during the trip. Other than that, we had to choose a site that was 10m x 10m so that we could make more detailed observations on our site.

Part Two - The Documentary Video

While we were on the trip, we were supposed to be taking videos on our site, or around the resort. This video should include an introduction about our site and also the project, the five senses of the students as being an experience, some interesting visuals on the site, and an awareness message to conclude the video. My team had started out our video with a theme, and that was like a skit, called "Dora the Explorers".

Part Three - The Info Graphic Exhibition Booth

From the findings and informations from our site, we were to make an info graphic exhibition booth for the whole group, whether it could be boards or even 3D models!! Even though this was a group work, each students still got their individual parts of information to be complied onto the exhibition booth. This was the most tiring and exhausting moment of the project as all the students achieved for something beyond plain good and had to stay back late in the studio for completion. This booth should include the introduction of the project, a topic to represent the booth, a representation of the site in Janda Baik, and the habitat and characteristics of different species found on site.

Part Four - The Scrapbook Journal

The final part of the project required students to create and design their own individual scrapbook, describing the 5 senses that excites the students, their understanding about nature, personal thought of the trip, and to have a compulsory explaination about one plant and one animal species. The scrapbook was all about the trip, so students could treat the scrapbook like a journal of living with the nature.

Reflection:
After this project, I realized that getting close to nature was a very precious moment to share to everyone and I highly encourage people to do it, without destroying nature. Even though we had to create a booth similar to nature, it still couldn't be compared with the real nature provided to us. We should take time to appreciate nature and promote nature so that it can stay with us, our next generations, and forever.

TJ03: 5 Senses and The City

Elements in Natural and Built Environment: The Journal Three

In this journal we were supposed to pay a visit to Kuala Lumpur, in order to record the 5 senses we experienced in the city. Other than explaining about the 5 senses, we should also include a brief explanation of the city and a small part of conclusion.

Reflection:
This project I learned that being observant is an important because every little details count. Through the site visit I also realized that observing all these little 5 senses is a good way train yourself to focus into something.

Measure and Diagram It

Introduction to Drawing: Project 1B

This project required us to draw out different techniques of drawings on a site given. It is a individual project but when it comes to measuring the site area, it brought out teamwork between the groupmates. Individually, we were to draw out the different types of drawings on butter paper and also producing a presentation board presenting the pictures. Since the site is large, it wasn't easy measuring the places. My group measured in details the thickness of walls, doors and columns too. We were divided into two groups of threes each to measure site, and then complied our measurements together in a whole. The types of drawings we were supposed to draw are: Key Plan, Location Plan, Site Plan Details, Bubble Diagram, Circulation Diagram, and Floor Plan.

Reflection:
From this project, I learned to draw the basics of architectural drawings. The first moment I heard of all the types of drawings we were supposed to draw, I was quite shock to hear all the types of drawings I never heard before in my life. But after I researched about the types of drawings, I understood that the types of drawings are all arranged in stages, like Key Plan is the biggest picture, then it came into Location Plan and then Site Plan, then finally Bubble diagram, the simplest way to draw out a site, and then into the more complex ones, which are Circulation Diagram and Floor Plan. Even though drawing the drawings are difficult, but I learnt that the more I redrew my drawings (due to some of them being incorrect), I finally learnt more and had improved my drawing skills.
